Triodos Investment Management, a 100% subsidiary of Triodos Bank, is a globally recognised leader in impact investing managing direct investments ranging from sustainable energy infrastructure to microfinance institutions.
Our business has grown on the basis of deep market sector insights and long term relationships with clients with whom we have a shared vision of the future. We currently manage 18 funds investing in both Europe and emerging markets with a range of risk-return profiles and financial instruments.
Individuals and institutions can invest in our funds which are selected from themes including climate and energy, microfinance, sustainable trade, organic food and agriculture, arts and culture, sustainable real estate and listed companies with above average environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.

As a result of this work it has become globally recognised as a front-runner in impact investing, producing social and environmental as well as financial returns. 2011 has been no exception for Triodos Investment Management.
In energy and climate, Triodos Investment Management was responsible for a reduction of over 1,500,000 tonnes of CO2 and realised the supply of sustainable energy sources of 1.264 MW.
Over 100.000 small-scale farmers in 27 countries worldwide were paid directly upon delivery of their harvest through our trade-finance facilities bringing 16 different fair-trade and organic products to international markets,
In arts and culture, Triodos Investment Management managed EUR 165 million in assets used to finance projects that reached 1.7 million visitors and providing affordable facilities to 2160 artists.
In real estate, it increased the quality and sustainability of the built environment by sustainably upgrading 2 buildings, reducing CO2 emissions by 50% .
In total, EUR 320 million of finance was provided to 95 upcoming and well-established microfinance institutions in Latin America, Asia and Africa. These institutions reach 7.9 million low-income people with loans of which 66% were women and 46% living in rural areas.
Engaging listed companies
Triodos Investment Management provides opportunities for people and institutions to invest in stock exchange listed companies that meet Triodos Bank’s strictest environmental, social, and governance criteria.
Through these funds (the SICAV I funds) investors become part of a movement to make the world’s largest corporations adopt more sustainable practices. To do this Triodos Investment Management has engaged with 368 companies worldwide in 2011.
Its SRI funds managed EUR 410 million in assets dedicated to ‘best in class’ and pioneering stock exchange listed companies worldwide and state bonds in Europe.
Funds performance in 2011
In 2011, the Triodos Investment Management’s total assets under management increased by EUR 293 million to EUR 2.1 billion, a 17% increase (2010: 10% increase).
This growth can primarily be contributed to a growth in investment emanating from (semi-) institutional funds in Ampere Equity Fund and Triodos Microfinance Fund and growth of private investments in Triodos Fair Share Triodos Groenfonds and Triodos Cultuurfonds experienced an outflow of funds, in particular, because of changes to the fund’s preferential tax arrangements. In general, growth for all the funds was steady throughout the year.
